Halloween is one of my favourite holidays, and I love getting the kids involved as much as possible. As you all know, hands on activities are one of the best ways to promote creative thinking and learning. Slime is one of the most loved activities for kids of almost all ages (....hey, I even love it! It is so therapeutic). I'm going to share a simple and EASY way to create slime with your little ones!
You gotta love pinterest! There are so many talented people who come up with the best ideas. I found this particular of recipe from here.
Here is a list of everything you'll need with its measurements:
Elmer's Glue- 200ml (about 1 regular sized bottle of glue)
Note*** This NEEDS to me Elmer's glue. Please don't substitute for a dollar store brand because the slime may not come out the way it should.
Baking Soda- 1/2 teaspoon
Water- 2 Tablespoons
Eye Solution- 1 1/2 tablespoons.
Note** Make sure you get a solution that has Boric Acid in it or else it won't turn into slime.
Directions
1) In a bowl, pour the entire contents of a regular sized Elmers glue bottle, or 200mls if you have a bigger container on hand.
2) Add your 2 tablespoons of water into the glue and mix. This will allow the slime to become more stretchy.
3) Toss in your 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and mix.
4) Add in your food colouring. You can have fun at this part and create whatever colour you want. Remember to mix well.
5) Finally add the 1 1/2 tablespoons of the eye solution and mix. At this point your slime should be holding tight together and becoming actual slime! It will be sticky at the beginning, but make sure you keep working it in. I just gave up with the wisk at this point and used my hands. Or get your kids to do it for you!
Viola! Easy and simple slime!
If you want to get even more creative, you can decorate mini mason jars to store the slime (I used 4oz glass jars I had around the house).
I used black felt, googly eyes, and a hot glue gun. If your kids are little older, spark some creativity and create whatever they want. This is a clean and cute way for your little ones to enjoy there home made slime for days to come!
